The Traveller

Evariste Huc joined his mission in Mongolia

In July 1839, Evariste Huc arrives at Macao, whereas the shade of the First Opium war darkens the sky of China. During the military events, the access to the Middle empire is interdict the abroads under penalty of death. It has patience in Macao, improving its training of the Chinese language and writing .
January 26, 1841, the convention of Elliot-Qishan signs a truce in the conflict and sounds finally its departure. To dodge the sharpened blade of the sabres of the Chinese guard, he put on the lawful manchou dress and carries the plait, signs of submissiveness with the emperor Daoguang (1782-1850).
February 20, 1841, nearly two years after its arrival, it embarks on jonque with three companions in direction of Beijing, in spite of the risks. Evariste Huc arrives four months later at Siwantze, in his mission in the north of the prohibited City ...
